Latino artist on the rise: meet Juanfran – Billboard

After launching his musical career in 2019, Juanfran, short for Juan Francisco, was ready to take on the world. Originally from Gran Canaria, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, the aspiring artist planned to expand his music to countries like Chile, Argentina, Canada and the United States.

Suddenly everything came to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But Juanfran’s dreams didn’t end there, eventually putting his music on an international map, going viral on TikTok and landing on the Billboard graphics in 2020.

“I am just a child from Gran Canaria”, he said Billboard. “I started singing when I was four, next to my dad who always sang at family celebrations, then I started writing my own music when I was 11.”

With his sweet and crisp voice, Juanfran has captivated music lovers, bringing his romance to the Latin urban scene. “I used to sing pop but I feel more identified with urban music because I’m still able to merge pop and R&B, which I like too. “

Admiring artists such as Daddy Yankee, Sebastian Yatra, Christian Castro and Reik, Juanfran first gained attention on social media with his freestyle and covers.

Today, at 16, he gets his first Billboard entry with “Como Llora”, fueled by her success on TikTok, where she has nearly a billion post creations. The single peaked at No. 27 on the Hot Latin Songs chart on July 18.

“I never thought this song would be a hit,” he says. “The fans are the ones who make the song go viral, but it also takes a good team to be successful. Honestly, I thought this song was going to hit 20 million views on YouTube and that was it.

“Como Llora”, released in February via DN7 Music, is co-written by Juanfran and Justin Quiles and produced by DJ Luian and Mambo Kingz. His words tell the story of a man ready to mend a woman’s broken heart. Seven months after his release, Victor Manuelle jumped on the track giving him a contagious salsa treatment.

“Anyone who knows music and loves salsa knows that Victor is a great man and artist,” he says. “I was unable to meet him in person, we only communicated via Instagram but I feel very honored.”

Juanfran, who also has a collaboration with Jowell called “Alarma”, is signed to DN7 music and managed by David Navarro. Mr. & Mrs. Entertainment, headed by José Vallejo, oversees the US market.
