Rising Latino Artist: Meet Chesca

Chesca, who signed with Saban Music Group, discovered her passion for music at a very young age thanks to her musically motivated family and her admiration for Michael Jackson. “When I was 8 or 9, I started accompanying my father and his group to Puerto Rico,” she recalls. “One day the lead singer got sick and I replaced her because I knew the whole repertoire. Here, 11-year-old Chesca sang live for the first time, and that’s when it all started.

A young Chesca signed a development contract with Sony Latin when she was just 11 years old. However, a tragic boating accident not long after, to celebrate her singing and Cinco de Mayo, put her professional dreams on hold.

“Music was the only place I could escape reality,” she says. “I had notable surgeries and lost 70% of my hair in this accident. I had 14 reconstructive surgeries on my scalp to get everything back. The only place I didn’t feel judged was on stage, because I wore wigs and hats.

When she picked up the pieces, Chesca says one of the first people to believe in her was Pitbull, whom she met about four years ago. “I was persistent with her camp and one day, I had the courage to ask her for a date,” she notes. “He was moved by my personal story and that’s when he invited me to participate in his song ‘Cinco de Mayo’ with Lil Jon.”

They now have four records together, including “Subelo” with Israeli pop duo Static & Ben and “Te Quiero Baby” with iconic Frankie Valli, both of which have passed the Billboard Latin Airplay table. “Súbelo (Further Up)” landed in first place on March 28, 2020, and “Te Quiero Baby” last December.

“It’s a dream come true, because I have always admired Billboard and I told myself that one day I will be recognized on this platform but knowing that Frankie has never been on a Latin chart and that this record l ‘put in there is amazing, “she says.

Currently, Chesca is doing the tour with his single “Como Tu Me Querias”, which features a remix assisted by De La Ghetto, and the Spanglish “Como Tu (Dirty)” with De La and Offset. “I love the record so much because it brought me back to my roots,” she notes. On March 19, Chesca, joined by De La, Offset and a live band, premiered “Como Tu (Dirty)” on Jimmy Kimmel Live !.
